Ranchi, February 01, 2025: The Jharkhand government has announced a ₹1,000 monthly travel allowance for college-going girls across the state. The initiative aims to promote higher education among female students and ease their commuting expenses. Higher & Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu directed the department to draft a proposal for implementation.
The scheme will also benefit students already receiving financial aid under the Maiya Samman Yojana, ensuring a broader reach to economically weaker sections.
Who is Eligible for the ₹1,000 Allowance?
To qualify for the travel allowance, students must meet specific eligibility criteria:
✔️ Enrolled in a Recognized College or University – The student must be actively pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate education in Jharkhand-based institutions.
✔️ Minimum 75% Attendance – Students must maintain a 75% attendance record to continue receiving the benefit.
✔️ Jharkhand Resident – Only permanent residents of Jharkhand will be eligible.
✔️ No Overlapping Benefits – Students availing other travel assistance schemes may not qualify.
State Government’s Vision Behind the Scheme
Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu emphasized that the primary goal of the scheme is to increase female participation in higher education. Many girls from rural areas discontinue studies due to financial constraints and transportation issues.
“This initiative will empower young women by reducing financial burdens and encouraging them to pursue higher education without mobility concerns,” said Minister Sonu.
Jharkhand’s government has been actively introducing education-friendly policies, with a special focus on research and innovation.
Upcoming Reforms: Research & Startup Development
In addition to the ₹1,000 travel allowance, the state is set to launch policies promoting research and startup incubation within universities. The government has scheduled a workshop on February 10, where vice-chancellors and principals from various institutions will discuss implementation strategies.
Six New Digital Portals to Streamline Educational Services
The Higher & Technical Education Department will also launch six new portals on February 10 to improve transparency and efficiency in the education sector:
📌 Teacher & Staff Salary Management Portal – Ensures timely disbursement of salaries.
📌 Learning Management System (LMS) Portal – Allows students to access online lectures from different institutions.
📌 Manki Munda Scholarship Portal – A dedicated platform for scholarship applications and tracking.
📌 Apprenticeship Portal – Facilitates industrial training opportunities for students.
📌 Private University Portal – Regulates and monitors private educational institutions.
📌 Financial Grant Portal – Manages non-funded educational institutions seeking state assistance.
Road Safety & Driving Lessons to be Added to School Curriculum
Alongside education reforms, the Jharkhand Transport Department is planning to introduce road safety and driving awareness into the school syllabus. Transport Minister Deepak Birua announced that discussions with the Chief Minister are underway to incorporate driving lessons and road safety education at the school level.
“If we educate children about road safety early on, we can significantly reduce accidents in the future,” said Minister Birua.
How to Apply for the ₹1,000 Allowance?
Eligible students can apply online once the official application portal goes live. The government will announce the official website and registration dates soon. Students must upload:
📌 Aadhaar-linked bank account details
📌 College ID and admission proof
📌 Attendance record verification
The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of female students across Jharkhand and enhance access to higher education. The state government continues to take progressive steps in education, ensuring a brighter future for young women.
