Giridih, December 04, 2024: In a devastating incident in Giridih, a massive fire broke out late on Tuesday night, engulfing three warehouses located in the Boro area of the Pachamba police station jurisdiction. The fire caused extensive damage, with an estimated loss of approximately ₹2 crore. The blaze affected two plywood warehouses and one electrical goods warehouse, along with several vehicles.
Details of the Fire Incident
The fire started around 11:30 PM on Tuesday, quickly spreading across the affected warehouses. According to Ravi Kumar Sahu, the owner of Babadham Plywood, the fire broke out in three adjoining warehouses, Jhumraj Enterprises, Babadham Plywood and an electrical goods warehouse. Jhumraj Enterprises belongs to Ravi’s father-in-law, Bhuneswar Prasad Sahu, while the electrical goods warehouse is owned by Amit Kumar.
Property and Vehicle Losses
The fire led to the destruction of a significant amount of property. In addition to large stocks of plywood and electrical goods, three motorcycles and an SUV were completely burnt. The damage is extensive, with Ravi Kumar Sahu estimating the total loss at ₹1.8 crore for his plywood warehouse alone.
Efforts to Control the Blaze
The fire was reported by two employees who stayed overnight at the warehouse. Between 11:30 PM and midnight, the employees alerted Ravi Kumar Sahu via phone about the fire. He rushed to the site and immediately contacted the fire brigade. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, working until 8:30 AM the following morning. Despite their best efforts, the fire was difficult to control due to the rapid spread and intense heat.
Cause of the Fire
Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit might have triggered the blaze. However, officials have yet to confirm the exact cause. The fire’s origin point is believed to be within the electrical goods warehouse, which could have contributed to the rapid escalation of the flames.
Impact on Local Business and Economy
The loss of stock, infrastructure and vehicles represents a severe blow to the local businesses involved. With large quantities of plywood and electrical goods destroyed, many customers and suppliers are expected to face delays. Additionally, the damage to essential machinery and vehicles could further delay operations, severely affecting the economic flow in the region.
The Giridih fire incident highlights the vulnerabilities of warehouse safety, especially in industrial areas where large quantities of flammable goods are stored. Local authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine whether safety protocols were followed and to assess any preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
In summary, this unfortunate event underscores the critical need for better safety measures and awareness in the storage of flammable materials in industrial areas. As the investigation continues, officials are focusing on understanding the precise cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent similar accidents in the future.
