Baharagora, November 05, 2024: In a significant operation at the Darisol checkpost in Bahragora, local police and the Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized ₹6.5 lakh in cash on Tuesday. The joint initiative was part of heightened election security protocols to prevent illegal cash flow during the assembly election period.
During a routine vehicle inspection, officials found ₹4 lakh in the car of Jamshedpur resident Sudhir Kumar Kowala. Magistrate Rajat Kumar, overseeing the inspection, confirmed that the cash was confiscated after Kumar failed to provide adequate documentation or an explanation for carrying the large amount.
In a separate incident at the same checkpost, officials also detained a car belonging to Odisha resident Batkrishna Mahapatra, uncovering ₹2.5 lakh in unaccounted cash. Magistrate Abhijit Bera, part of the inspection team, stated that the amount was seized as Mahapatra similarly could not produce necessary documents to justify the cash.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings due to the absence of valid explanations for the cash amounts, underscoring the state’s efforts to ensure a transparent electoral process.
