First Seizure from Bijendra Gorai
On Friday, during routine vehicle checks, the police intercepted Bijendra Gorai, a resident of Chirkunda. Gorai was traveling on a bike from Barakar when the police found ₹1 lakh in his possession. The authorities seized the cash and further inquiries are being conducted to verify its source and legitimacy.
Second Seizure Involving Md. Abdul Kayyum
In a separate operation on Thursday night, the Chirkunda police seized ₹1.35 lakh from Md. Abdul Kayyum, who was traveling from West Bengal into Jharkhand. Kayyum was also found carrying an amount exceeding the permissible limit. Under the Election Code of Conduct, carrying more than ₹50,000 in cash without proper documentation is prohibited.
Investigation and Legal Action
Chirkunda Police Station In-Charge, Ramji Rai, confirmed that both individuals were detained and investigations are underway to determine whether the cash was being transported for lawful purposes. If the individuals can present valid documents regarding the money, the cash will be returned, and they will be released.
The operation, led by Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Singh, received praise for its efficient handling. The Chirkunda police force remains vigilant in preventing violations of election laws during this sensitive period.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts to enforce electoral transparency and curtail the movement of unaccounted funds in the region.
