Giridih Police Confiscate 190 Cartons of Illegal Liquor in Major Operation

Giridih, November 02, 2024: In a significant crackdown on illicit alcohol transportation, police in the Ghodthamba OP area seized a truck carrying 190 cartons of English liquor, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh. The seizure took place on Saturday afternoon at the Nimdih SST checkpoint, following a coordinated operation led by Superintendent of Police, Dr. Vimal Kumar.

Truck Intercepted at Neemdih Checkpoint

Around 1:30 p.m., police personnel stationed at the Nimdih SST checkpoint noticed a suspicious truck approaching the area. With support from armed forces, officers stopped the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. During the inspection, officials discovered 190 cartons containing a range of high-value foreign liquors from various companies, confirming suspicions of illegal transport.

Driver Detained for Interrogation

The truck’s driver, identified as Baljinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab, was taken into custody for questioning. According to Dr. Kumar, Singh admitted that the truck was loaded with unauthorized alcohol and was en route to an undisclosed location. When asked to present valid paperwork for the alcohol, Singh failed to produce any legal documentation, further raising suspicions about the intent of the transport.

Investigation Underway under Excise Act Violations

Local authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bihar and Jharkhand Excise Act (47A) for illegal transport and possession of alcohol. Police officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the origins of the seized liquor and identify potential accomplices involved in the illegal distribution network.

This latest seizure is part of an intensified effort by Jharkhand law enforcement to curb the illegal trade of alcohol, which has seen a rise in recent months. The authorities continue to reinforce border checks and increase vigilance at strategic points to deter similar incidents and uphold state excise laws effectively.
