Jamshedpur News: Hemant Soren Government Demolishes 150 Illegal Shops in Adityapur, Here is Why?

Ranchi, December 06, 2024: The Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government intensified its crackdown on encroachments with a high-profile demolition drive on Thursday. The municipal corporation took decisive action, clearing approximately 150 temporary shops built illegally on the main road and service lanes in Adityapur, Jamshedpur.

Massive Demolition Drive in Adityapur

The drive began early Thursday morning, spearheaded by the municipal corporation and continued from 11 AM to 4 PM. The first target was the congested Thana Road area, where approximately 100 temporary shops were dismantled. Later, the operation extended to the main road’s footpath and service lanes, where additional permanent and temporary structures were brought down.

A senior official stated that the drive covered key areas like Akashvani Chowk, Sher-e-Punjab, and Adityapur Thana Road. The municipality executed the action despite some local resistance, ensuring the operation proceeded without major disruptions.

Pre-Demolition Warnings Issued

The municipal administration had issued prior notices to vendors and shopkeepers, cautioning them to remove encroachments voluntarily. Notices covered areas including Kharkhai Bridge, Akashvani Chowk, Sher-e-Punjab Chowk, Imli Chowk, S-Type Chowk and nearby service roads.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner Parul Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining encroachment-free public spaces, warning that attempts to reoccupy cleared spaces would result in strict legal action.

Alternative Arrangements for Vendors

Understanding the potential livelihood concerns, the municipal corporation made arrangements for vegetable vendors displaced during the drive. A dedicated space behind Dindli Bazaar was cleaned and fogged to prepare a new vending area. Over 150 sanitation workers were deployed for this operation, ensuring the space was hygienic and ready for use.

From Friday onwards, two officials will oversee the relocation process and assist vendors in establishing themselves at the designated site.

Legal Consequences for Non-Compliance

The administration has made it clear that any attempts to reestablish encroachments will invite immediate legal consequences. Municipal Commissioner Parul Singh confirmed that regular monitoring of cleared spaces would be conducted to prevent further violations. The corporation has also set a two-day deadline for vendors and shopkeepers to voluntarily remove remaining temporary structures.

Officials Overseeing the Drive

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Parul Singh, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, along with Administrator Vipul Sunny, Adityapur Station In-charge Rajeev Singh, Traffic In-charge Rajesh Singh and Municipal Manager Ravi Bharti. Their coordinated efforts ensured the smooth execution of the drive.
