Jamshedpur News: Jamshedpur Police Arrests Bunti Guha for Extortion on Behalf of Sonu Singh

Jamshedpur, December 21, 2024: In a significant crackdown on extortion activities, Jamshedpur police have arrested Bunti Guha, a resident of Parsudih, for allegedly demanding extortion money from local businessmen in the name of Sonu Singh, a convicted criminal incarcerated in Hotwar Jail. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a jewelry trader in Kadma on December 19, who reported receiving extortion threats.

Extortion Demands on Behalf of Sonu Singh

Bunti Guha was reportedly collecting money from traders in Jamshedpur on behalf of Sonu Singh, who is currently serving a sentence in Hotwar Jail. Authorities have confirmed that Guha had been making threats and demanding money from various business owners in the city under the guise of representing Sonu Singh, who is well-known for his criminal activities.

According to Jamshedpur Police, Bunti Guha’s arrest follows a series of complaints from traders, the latest being a complaint from a jewelry business owner in Kadma. The businessman reported that he had been threatened by Guha, who insisted that he pay extortion money for “protection” from potential harm.

Police Seize Illegal Weapons and Mobile Phones

During the arrest, police recovered several items from Bunti Guha, including a country-made firearm, two live bullets, a mobile phone and a SIM card. The authorities believe these items may have been used to further intimidate victims and facilitate his extortion activities. The police also suspect that Guha may have had connections with other individuals involved in similar crimes across the region.

SSP Kishore Kaushal, while briefing the media on Saturday, stated that a special police team had been formed to apprehend Guha after multiple complaints had been filed against him. The team successfully tracked down Guha to Parsudih and arrested him, ensuring that the city’s business community would no longer be subjected to his unlawful demands.

Ongoing Investigation and Further Action

The arrest of Bunti Guha marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts of Jamshedpur police to curb organized crime and extortion activities within the city.
