Jharkhand News: Amber Lakra Appointed as Deoghar SP Following Election Commission Order

Ranchi, November 05, 2024: In a recent development, Amber Lakra has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Deoghar, following a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to replace Ajit Peeter Dungdung. The move came after the state’s Home Department released an official notification on Tuesday morning, ending a delay in implementing the EC’s orders issued on October 29.

The Election Commission’s directive called for Dungdung’s removal amid ongoing preparations for the upcoming state elections. However, the Jharkhand government initially delayed sending a list of replacements to the EC, despite being required to comply within three days. Following this delay, the EC issued a reminder on Sunday, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure an unbiased and effective law enforcement environment in Deoghar.

In response to the EC’s reminder, the Home Department finally submitted a panel of candidates for the Deoghar SP position. The panel included Amber Lakra, Sarojini Lakra and Manish Toppo. After review, the EC selected Amber Lakra to assume the role, with the official notification confirming his appointment being issued on Tuesday.

Amber Lakra, who previously held the post of Commandant of JAP-3 in Govindpur, Dhanbad, brings extensive experience in police administration.
