Jharkhand News: Crusher Operator in Ranchi Threatened with Death Over ₹20 Lakh Extortion Demand

Ranchi, December 12, 2024: A new case of extortion has surfaced in Ranchi’s Bariatu area, where members of the notorious Deva gang have threatened a crusher operator with death while demanding ₹20 lakh. The incident has raised concerns about the increasing crime rate in the region.

Details of the Incident

The victim, identified as Shailendra Pratap Narayan Singh, also known as Anup Singh, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Bariatu police station. According to Singh, the extortion demand came through a threatening phone call from Avinash Tiwari, who identified himself as a member of the Deva gang.

Tiwari not only demanded ₹20 lakh but also issued a dire warning of life-threatening consequences if the amount was not paid within a week. In a further attempt to intimidate, Tiwari revealed details about the victim’s family, including the school attended by Singh’s child and their residential address.

Past Threats Against the Victim

This is not the first time Singh has faced such threats. In September, he received a similar extortion call, leading him to register a complaint at the Sikidiri police station. Despite these reports, the threats have continued, indicating the gang’s persistent activities in the area.

Police Investigation Underway

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. A senior police officer from the Bariatu station confirmed that efforts are being made to track down Avinash Tiwari and other suspected members of the Deva gang. Preliminary findings suggest that the gang has been involved in a series of extortion-related crimes in Ranchi.

The police are also exploring whether these incidents are part of a larger pattern of organized crime in the area.
