Ranchi, November 28, 2024: In a shocking crime reminiscent of Delhi’s infamous Shraddha Walkar murder case, a man in Ranchi brutally killed his live-in partner, dismembering her body into 50 pieces before scattering them in a forest. The gruesome crime has shaken the quiet village of Jojodag in Khunti district, with police swiftly arresting the accused, Naresh Bhengra.
Live-In Relationship Ends in Tragedy
The victim, 24-year-old Gangi Kumari, had been living with Naresh in a live-in relationship. Originally from Malgo Tangra Toli in Ranchi’s Lapung police station area, Gangi met Naresh, whose maternal home was in her village. Their relationship blossomed when Naresh visited his relatives, eventually leading her to move in with him in Jojodag.
The Breakup That Turned Deadly
After living together for over a year and a half, Gangi moved to Tamil Nadu for work, while Naresh relocated to Bengaluru. During this time, Naresh began a relationship with another woman, with whom he had a child. When Gangi discovered this, she traveled to Bengaluru to confront him.
On November 6, Naresh brought Gangi back to Ranchi. Two days later, he took her to a secluded forest near Bhagwan Panj Tongri instead of her village, as promised. What followed was a fatal argument. Gangi demanded repayment of money she had given Naresh and asked him to drop her at her home. The disagreement escalated and Naresh strangled her with a dupatta.
Gruesome Disposal of the Body
After the murder, Naresh used a traditional axe, locally known as a tangi, to dismember Gangi’s body into multiple pieces. He buried some parts and scattered others across different areas of the forest. Following this, Naresh returned home, attempting to resume normalcy.
On November 24, villagers stumbled upon skeletal remains in the forest and informed the police. This discovery unraveled the horrifying crime.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The Khunti police, led by SDPO Christopher Kerketta, launched an investigation. Evidence collected from the crime scene included blood-stained weapons, the victim’s photographs and other incriminating items. The police arrested Naresh and charged him with murder.
Teams comprising police inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, station in-charge Raju Kumar and SI Kuldeep Roshan Bari worked tirelessly to solve the case.
Parallels to Shraddha Walkar Case
This incident draws chilling similarities to the 2022 murder of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi, where her live-in partner also killed her and disposed of her body in parts. Both cases highlight the dark turn relationships can take and the growing prevalence of such heinous crimes.
Community Reaction
The incident has left locals in shock, questioning the nature of relationships in modern times. Discussions about domestic violence, trust issues and the mental health of perpetrators have resurfaced.
Evidence and Legal Proceedings
Police recovered several critical pieces of evidence, including the axe used in the crime, blood-stained clothing and tools. Naresh is currently in custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated. Authorities aim to expedite the case to ensure swift justice for Gangi.
