Ranchi, December 10, 2024: During the special session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, JMM (JVM) MLA Jairam Mahato raised a critical issue regarding the JSSC (Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission) CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exam, urging the state government to address the concerns of thousands of aspirants. Jairam Mahato, a prominent figure known for his involvement in student protests, emphasized that his political journey was deeply influenced by the struggles of youth and students.
Raising the Issue in the Assembly
Jairam Mahato took the floor in the assembly to highlight the widespread grievances surrounding the JSSC CGL exam results, which had sparked unrest among candidates across the state. Jairam Mahato, in his address, stated, “I have come here from the student movement and I understand the frustration and anger of these young individuals who have worked tirelessly in hopes of securing a government job.” His comments were directed at the Jharkhand government, urging Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally intervene and resolve the issue.
The JSSC CGL exam, which is a key recruitment tool for various government positions in Jharkhand, has faced allegations of irregularities and procedural errors. Jairam Mahato pointed out that many candidates were left in confusion due to inconsistencies in the examination process and results, leading to a sense of betrayal among the aspirants.
The Student Movement Connection
Jairam Mahato’s reference to his roots in the student protests resonated with many in the assembly. Having gained prominence through student movements advocating for youth rights, Jairam Mahato’s involvement in political activism has always been aligned with addressing issues affecting students and young people in Jharkhand. He urged the Chief Minister to meet with the affected candidates, emphasizing that these individuals are, in many ways, like the children of the state.
Babulal Marandi Joins the Call for Action
Former Chief Minister and BJP state president, Babulal Marandi, also weighed in on the issue, echoing Jairam Mahato’s concerns. Babulal Marandi criticized the Jharkhand government for the discrepancies found in the JSSC CGL results. “There are significant inconsistencies in the results, with candidates who had performed poorly passing with ease, while those who deserved better are left behind,” Marandi said, voicing the frustration of many candidates.
Further complicating the matter, Babulal Marandi highlighted allegations of corruption, with some candidates accusing the JSSC of selling exam seats. This raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the recruitment process.
Call for CBI Investigation
In light of the mounting allegations, Babulal Marandi called for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe into the JSSC CGL exam process. “To ensure transparency and restore faith in the recruitment system, we demand a CBI investigation into the entire process,” Marandi stated. He added that the BJP would continue to stand with the students, from the streets to the legislature, until the matter was resolved.
The BJP leader’s demand for a CBI inquiry was reinforced by Jairam Mahato’s support for a fair investigation. Mahato also stressed the importance of rectifying the situation to prevent further damage to the credibility of the recruitment process in Jharkhand.
Student Protests and Government Response
The unrest among students over the JSSC CGL exam results has already led to protests in various parts of the state. Aspirants have taken to the streets demanding justice, with many criticizing the government’s failure to address their concerns in a timely manner. Jairam Mahato urged the state government to take the issue seriously and meet with student representatives to find a resolution.
The growing discontent surrounding the JSSC CGL exam is not only a political issue but also one of social justice, as thousands of young candidates rely on these exams to secure a future in the state’s public sector.
Future Outlook
As the debate over the JSSC CGL exam continues, the pressure on the state government is mounting. With key political figures like Jairam Mahato and Babulal Marandi now publicly advocating for action, it remains to be seen how the Jharkhand government will address the concerns of these agitated students. The demand for transparency and fairness in government recruitment processes is gaining momentum and the outcome of this issue could have significant implications for the future of civil service exams in the state.
The Jharkhand Assembly’s debate on the JSSC CGL issue underscores the urgency of addressing the challenges faced by students in securing fair and transparent opportunities for public sector employment in the state.
