Jharkhand Weather Update: Rain and Thunderstorm Warning for Next Five Days

Ranchi, September 25, 2025: Jharkhand is set to experience a significant shift in weather conditions over the next five days. According to the State Meteorological Department, most districts, including Ranchi, are expected to witness cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rainfall. Certain areas may also face thunderstorms and lightning.

New Low-Pressure System Forming in the Bay of Bengal

The Meteorological Department reported the development of a new low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Cyclonic circulation is active over Myanmar and the eastern-central Bay of Bengal, which could lead to the formation of a new low-pressure area by September 25. The effects of this system are likely to be felt across Jharkhand until September 30.

Heavy Rainfall in Ranchi Breaks Records

In the past 24 hours, Ranchi recorded 140.2 mm of rainfall in Mandar, setting a new local record. Light to moderate rainfall was also reported in Simdega, Khunti, Gumla, Ramgarh, and Hazaribagh districts. Between June 1 and September 24, Ranchi has received 1509.2 mm of rainfall, approximately 50% above the seasonal average, highlighting unusually high precipitation this year.

Temperature Remains Stable Amid Cloud Cover

Despite the rainfall, temperatures across the state remain relatively stable due to persistent cloud cover. On Wednesday, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 29.7°C and a minimum of 22.4°C. Godda was the hottest district, with temperatures reaching up to 34.6°C.

Public Safety and Precautionary Measures

Authorities have urged residents in affected districts to remain vigilant. Farmers, commuters, and outdoor workers are advised to take precautions against waterlogging, potential lightning strikes, and localized flooding. Emergency services have been put on alert to respond promptly to weather-related incidents.
