Latehar, December 05, 2024: In a significant crackdown, Latehar Police have seized a large quantity of illegal liquor valued at ₹50 lakhs. The operation, launched following a tip-off, led to the interception of a truck transporting the contraband under the guise of animal feed.
Latehar Police Uncover Illegal Liquor Smuggling Operation
Acting on reliable intelligence, Latehar’s Police Superintendent Kumar Gaurav directed a covert operation to tackle illegal liquor smuggling. The tip-off indicated that a truck, traveling from Latehar towards Ranchi, was carrying liquor hidden beneath bags of animal feed. This led to the formation of a special raiding team.
Truck Seized with 967 Cartons of Foreign Liquor
During the vehicle check at Indira Gandhi Chowk, located near Chanda, the police flagged down truck RJ11GB 1437. Upon conducting a thorough search, they uncovered 967 cartons of foreign-made liquor concealed under the animal feed bags. The liquor haul is estimated to be worth around ₹50 lakhs.
Suspects Arrested in Latehar Liquor Seizure
The operation also resulted in the arrest of two individuals. The suspects, Kana Ram (45) and Kishan Ram (28), both hailing from Barmer, Rajasthan, were taken into custody for their involvement in the smuggling attempt. The authorities have initiated further investigation to track the full extent of the smuggling network.
Police Confiscate Truck and Animal Feed in Latehar Raid
In addition to the illegal liquor, police seized the 14-wheeled truck involved in the smuggling operation. A total of 150 bags of animal feed were also recovered during the raid. Police have confirmed that the truck was transporting the contraband from Haryana and its destination was Ranchi. The team continues to gather evidence related to the broader illegal liquor trade in the region.
