Chaibasa, August 30, 2026: The Under-17 football team of Madhusudan Public School (MPS), Chakradharpur, has won the CBSE Cluster III Football Championship 2026, defeating defending champions St Michael School, Patna, 1-0 in the final.
The championship was held at Saluja Gold International School in Giridih, with 106 schools from Bihar and Jharkhand participating in the competition.
MPS defeats defending champions in final
A total of 39 teams competed in the Under-17 category.
MPS Chakradharpur progressed through the tournament with a strong combination of performance, discipline and teamwork before reaching the final.
In the title clash, the Chakradharpur team secured a 1-0 victory over St Michael School, Patna, to lift the championship trophy.
The victory has also earned MPS a place in the CBSE National Football Championship, adding another achievement to the school’s sporting record.
Two MPS players receive individual honours
Two Class 9 students from MPS Chakradharpur were also recognised for their performances during the tournament.
Ganesh Bobonga was named Player of the Tournament for his performances throughout the competition and his contribution to the team’s championship-winning campaign.
His Class 9 teammate Viraj Mahto received the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award for his goalkeeping, composure and consistent performances.
School credits players and coaches
The school management attributed the championship victory to the players’ hard work, discipline and dedication, along with the guidance provided by the coaching staff.
