Ranchi, August 29, 2026: Two activities focused on health awareness and improvement of patient services were held at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Saturday.
As part of National Eye Donation Fortnight, the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) organised a poster painting and slogan writing competition to promote awareness about eye donation. On the same day, RIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Sinha conducted a surprise inspection of the institute’s Urology and Nephrology departments and directed officials to improve patient facilities.
Around 40 students participate in eye donation competition
Around 40 students from various schools as well as medical and paramedical institutions participated in the competition organised at RIO.
Based on their performances, Shreya Kumari of CM School of Excellence, Bariatu, secured first position. Jashmani Kumari of MMK High School stood second, while Sakshi Kumari and Ayushi Jha of CM School of Excellence jointly secured third position.
RIO Head of Department Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar, along with Dr. Rahul Prasad and Dr. Deepak Lakra, presented awards and certificates to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sunil Kumar said eye donation represents a commitment to bringing light into another person’s life and emphasised the importance of young people’s participation in creating awareness.
RIMS director conducts surprise inspection
Separately, RIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Sinha carried out a surprise inspection of the Urology and Nephrology departments.
During the inspection, he reviewed patient facilities, cleanliness arrangements and medical services being provided in the departments.
Sinha directed officials to maintain proper cleanliness and ensure adequate availability of trolleys to make patient movement easier.
He also instructed the concerned officials to provide well-equipped rooms for newly appointed consultants working in the departments.
Focus on patient-centred healthcare
The RIMS director expressed satisfaction with the work being carried out by the departments and directed the teams to continue providing quality and patient-centred healthcare services.
The two activities at RIMS combined public awareness on eye donation with an administrative review focused on improving facilities and services for patients.
