Chaibasa, August 29, 2026: A government school building at Dwarparam in Chakradharpur block of West Singhbhum district has reportedly deteriorated significantly, with plaster and pieces of concrete falling from the ceiling and large cracks appearing on the walls and roof.

The condition of the building has raised concerns among students, teachers and parents, who fear that falling portions of the structure could cause an accident.

Cracks and exposed reinforcement bars visible

According to villagers and the school management, the building’s roof and walls have developed cracks at several places. In some sections, plaster has completely come off, leaving reinforcement bars exposed.

Students are continuing to attend classes in the same building despite its reported condition.

The situation is said to become worse during the monsoon. Water reportedly leaks through the roof during rainfall, with classrooms sometimes becoming wet and water accumulating inside.

Parents concerned about children’s safety

The continued falling of plaster from the ceiling has heightened concerns about the possibility of a major accident.

Parents in the area have expressed apprehension about sending their children to school in such conditions. Villagers and members of the school management said the concerned department had been informed several times about the condition of the building, but claimed that no concrete action had been taken so far.

They have urged the authorities to address the issue before the condition deteriorates further.

Demand for inspection and immediate repairs

Residents have appealed to the district administration and Education Department to conduct an immediate inspection of the school building.

They have demanded urgent repair of the damaged portions or construction of a new school building if the existing structure is found unsafe.

Parents have also urged the administration to treat the safety of students as a priority and take steps to ensure that children can attend classes in a secure environment.
