Jamtara, August 29, 2026: The Jharkhand Health Department has stepped up preparedness against H1N1, commonly known as swine flu, with Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari reviewing the situation and health infrastructure across the state on Saturday.
Following the review, the minister directed civil surgeons, superintendents and principals of medical colleges, and district surveillance officers to maintain continuous monitoring of the situation.
Hospitals told to keep 10 additional beds ready
The minister directed RIMS, medical colleges and Sadar hospitals across Jharkhand to keep 10 additional beds reserved for patients requiring treatment related to the situation.
Hospitals have also been instructed to ensure that oxygen supplies, medicines, testing facilities, ICU and HDU arrangements remain fully functional and readily available.
ILI and SARI surveillance to be strengthened
The Health Department has directed all districts to strengthen monitoring and reporting of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases.
Surveillance is also to be increased at major public locations, including airports, railway stations and bus stands, as part of the state’s monitoring efforts.
Minister urges people not to panic
Health Minister Irfan Ansari appealed to people not to panic if they develop symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or breathing difficulties.
He advised people against self-medication and urged those experiencing such symptoms to seek medical advice at the nearest health centre.
The government has assured that arrangements are being made to facilitate timely testing and treatment for patients requiring medical attention.
