Ranchi, August 29,2026: Jharkhand is likely to experience unsettled weather over the next three days, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected across several parts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, several areas may receive heavy rain on August 29 and 30, while the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase in parts of central Jharkhand and adjoining Latehar on August 31. A warning has also been issued for lightning and winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places.
An orange alert has been issued for parts of the state for August 31.
Heavy rain forecast in several districts on August 29
On August 29, most parts of Jharkhand may receive light to moderate rainfall, with isolated areas likely to experience intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
In north-eastern Jharkhand, heavy rain is possible at some places in Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahibganj.
Heavy rainfall is also expected at some places in Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Koderma and Dhanbad.
In south-eastern Jharkhand, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan may also receive heavy showers at isolated places.
Thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are also possible during this period.
Rain activity to continue on August 30
Weather conditions are expected to remain active on August 30, particularly across southern, north-eastern and central parts of Jharkhand.
Heavy rain is likely at some places in Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara and Giridih. In central Jharkhand, Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Bokaro and Dhanbad may also receive heavy rainfall.
Parts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan in southern Jharkhand may experience heavy showers as well.
The weather system could bring thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph in isolated areas.
Orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain on August 31
The impact of heavy rainfall is expected to become more pronounced on August 31.
According to the Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at some places in Gumla, Ranchi, Khunti and Lohardaga. Similar conditions are also possible in parts of Latehar.
An orange alert has been issued for these areas, and residents have been advised to remain particularly cautious.
Other parts of Jharkhand may also experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Balumath records 110 mm rainfall
During the previous 24 hours, Balumath in Latehar district recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm, according to the weather data cited in the source.
Kumardungi recorded 89 mm, while Manika, ZRS Darisai and Bariatu each recorded 80 mm of rainfall.
Jamshedpur records highest maximum temperature
Despite rainfall in several areas, temperatures remained relatively high in parts of the state.
Jamshedpur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.1°C during the previous 24 hours. The lowest minimum temperature of 20.4°C was recorded at BAU, Kanke, Ranchi.
Low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal driving rainfall
According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, a low-pressure area over the north-western Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha is currently active.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to around 7.6 km above mean sea level. It is expected to become more defined over the next 48 hours and move west-northwestwards towards north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
The monsoon trough is also passing through the Daltonganj area of Jharkhand.
These weather systems are expected to keep rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning activity active across the state through August 31.
