Ranchi, August 29,2026: Concerns over swine flu are growing in Jharkhand after H1N1 virus infection was detected in eight samples sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for testing from suspected patients across the state.
According to Dr Manoj Kumar, Head of the Department of Microbiology at RIMS, the virus was detected in the samples during testing.
Ranchi has also reported suspected cases, with information indicating H1N1 symptoms among a RIMS doctor and his son, some students at a hostel and patients admitted to a private hospital. The source material does not provide confirmed test results for these individuals.
Health department puts districts on alert
Despite reports of H1N1 infections, the Jharkhand Health Department has not yet released official statewide figures.
Preparations, however, have been stepped up. The department’s Additional Chief Secretary held an online meeting with civil surgeons and deputy superintendents of Sadar hospitals across the state and directed them to remain alert and ensure adequate arrangements for testing and treatment.
Health authorities have also been asked to keep the necessary medical facilities prepared to deal with suspected cases.
H1N1 can be more serious for vulnerable groups
