Bokaro News: A public hearing and claim-and-objection camp under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise was held at the Govindpur C Panchayat Secretariat in Bokaro Thermal on Saturday.
The camp was organised in accordance with Election Commission directions to provide eligible voters an opportunity to raise claims or objections regarding their inclusion in the electoral roll.
Bermo BDO Mukesh Kumar, Govindpur C Panchayat Mukhiya Vikas Singh alias Bablu Singh, Panchayat Secretary Deepak Lohra, Ward Member Ravinder Thakur, Panchayat Assistant Abhinit Kumar, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and a large number of local voters attended the camp.
Eligible voters given opportunity to submit claims
Explaining the directions of the administration and Election Commission, Mukhiya Vikas Singh said the hearing day was an important opportunity for eligible voters whose names had not been linked during the SIR process or who had been removed from the voter list for any reason.
Voters can submit a claim or objection by providing any one of the 14 documents prescribed by the Election Commission, according to the information shared at the camp.
For people whose names have never appeared in an electoral roll, Form 6 is available for applying for inclusion in the voter list.
The camp covered various booths in Govindpur B and Govindpur C panchayats.
Another camp will be organised in Govindpur C on August 31, followed by special camps at the district level.
More than 80% voter mapping completed in Govindpur
Bermo BDO Mukesh Kumar said the first phase of the SIR exercise had been completed and the draft electoral roll was published on August 5. Verification and correction work is now underway.
He said voter mapping is being carried out by matching records with the 2003 electoral roll.
Eligible voters born after 2003 or those newly eligible are being mapped using records of their parents or grandparents, as applicable.
According to the BDO, more than 80% of mapping in the Govindpur area has been completed. The remaining 20% of unmapped voters are being covered through the special campaign.
Kumar urged residents to complete their mapping and SIR-related verification within the prescribed time.
Rules explained for applicants of Nepali origin
The BDO also explained the rules cited for inclusion of people of Nepali origin in the electoral roll.
According to the information provided at the camp:
- Persons of Nepali origin born in India up to June 30, 1987 can be included on the basis of a birth certificate.
- Those born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004 must provide a birth certificate along with proof that at least one parent is an Indian citizen.
- Applicants born on or after December 3, 2004 must provide a birth certificate as well as proof that both parents are Indian citizens.
Officials appealed to eligible residents to use the special camps to resolve any issues related to voter-list mapping, claims and objections.
