Ranchi, December 21, 2024: On Saturday, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Ranchi, Anoop Birthray, conducted a surprise inspection of the Ranchi Civil Court. The inspection, which took place in the afternoon, was part of a directive issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta, who had emphasized the need for enhanced security in court premises across the state. During his visit, DIG Anoop Birthray closely examined the court’s security arrangements, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
Inspection Focuses on Courtroom and External Infrastructure
DIG Anoop Birthray’s unannounced visit to the Civil Court began with an assessment of both the courtroom and the outer premises. Upon his arrival, the court’s security in-charge and other police personnel rushed to meet him. Anoop Birthray’s inspection included a thorough review of the security measures, not just inside the courtroom but also around the exterior, which is critical in maintaining the overall safety of the premises. Additionally, the DIG summoned the deployed security personnel to inquire about the security protocols and gathered feedback on their operations.
DIG Reviews Security Equipment and Identifies Areas of Concern
One of the key aspects of the inspection was the evaluation of the security equipment provided to the personnel. DIG Anoop Birthray personally examined the tools and gadgets used by the security staff, ensuring that they were up to the required standards. Reports indicate that several shortcomings in the security infrastructure were identified during the inspection. Anoop Birthray has since directed the concerned authorities to address these gaps and strengthen the court’s security system. The findings have prompted the authorities to act promptly, ensuring the safety of court officials, legal personnel and the general public visiting the court.
DGP’s Statewide Monitoring Directive
This surprise inspection by DIG Anoop Birthray follows a broader directive issued by DGP Anurag Gupta. In recent days, DGP Gupta had reviewed the security protocols in place for court complexes and judicial residences across Jharkhand. Recognizing the importance of safeguarding judicial premises, the DGP directed officials at the Range DIG level to monitor all district courts and judicial residences within their jurisdiction. Each DIG was instructed to provide a comprehensive report on the security measures in place and any potential threats or vulnerabilities that could compromise safety. This initiative aims to tighten the security framework surrounding the judicial system in Jharkhand.
Ongoing Monitoring and Future Inspections
The monitoring directive forms part of an ongoing effort to bolster security at judicial institutions, ensuring a safe environment for all court proceedings. DIG Anoop Birthray’s inspection of Ranchi Civil Court is just the first in a series of planned inspections. In the coming weeks, similar surprise checks are expected to take place in other judicial complexes within the Ranchi range, further ensuring that the safety of judges, lawyers, litigants and other court staff is not compromised.
Authorities have stressed that with the increasing number of cases and the heightened threat perception, maintaining security in courtrooms is crucial. The police are committed to addressing any identified shortcomings swiftly and efficiently.
