Chaibasa, August 29, 2026: Under-20 Boys won the two-day football tournament at Rancipata ground in Chakradharpur, West Singhbhum, after defeating Sabir Brothers in a penalty shootout in the final.
The final was played over the scheduled 20-minute duration, but neither team managed to score. With the match ending goalless, the winner was decided through a penalty shootout, where Under-20 Boys held their nerve to claim the title.
Vijay Singh Gagrai attends closing ceremony
BJP senior leader Dr Vijay Singh Gagrai attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and congratulated the players of both the winning and runner-up teams.
Gagrai said sports competitions in rural areas provide young people with an opportunity to showcase their talent. He said participation in sports helps promote discipline, team spirit and the ability to face challenges.
He also emphasised the need to continue encouraging such events so that young players from the region can progress towards district, state and national-level competitions.
Special guests Sanjeet Bankira and Chandrashekhar Munda, along with honoured guest Lakhan Hembram, also encouraged the players and praised the performances of both teams.
The winning team was presented with an award during the closing ceremony.
Large crowd gathers to watch final
A sizeable gathering of local residents and sports enthusiasts watched the final and other matches during the tournament.
Among those present were Toklo Gramin Mandal president Kande Padeya, Gomia Gagrai, Sujit Hasda, Mukund Banra, Keshav Pradhan, Kunwar Singh Bodra, Hindu Bodra, Rasai Samad and Somay Bodra, along with a large number of local women, men and sports lovers.
The tournament provided local players with a platform to compete and showcase their football skills.
