Chaibasa, August 31, 2026: The Adivasi Ho Samaj Youth Mahasabha and Women’s Mahasabha have given the administration five days to complete an investigation and make arrests in connection with an alleged August 27 incident involving an Adivasi woman and her minor daughter in Barajamda, West Singhbhum.
The organisations have demanded a fair, transparent and prompt investigation, saying those found responsible should face action under the law. They warned that failure to act within the stipulated period would lead to a democratic protest.
The organisations also said the administration should ensure the safety, dignity and identity of the affected family throughout the proceedings.
Demand for probe into lodge
A separate demand has been made for a detailed investigation into the lodge where the alleged incident reportedly took place.
The organisations said that if the investigation finds negligence by the lodge management or any involvement in an offence, the operator should face strict action and the lodge should be sealed.
They further said that if the investigation establishes that the minor was subjected to a sexual offence, the accused should be arrested under applicable provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other relevant laws.
‘Safety of Adivasi women and girls is the biggest issue’
Ho Samaj Youth Mahasabha district president Shersingh Birua said the safety of Adivasi women and girls remained a major concern.
He said that claims about women’s safety would raise serious questions if women and girls began feeling unsafe about leaving their homes. Birua also said attempts to intimidate Adivasi people or prevent them from seeking justice would not be tolerated.
The organisations said that if the family was hesitant or afraid to approach the police station, the administration should take the initiative to provide security and facilitate access to justice.
Organisations seek action within five days
The five-day deadline was issued jointly by the Ho Samaj Youth Mahasabha and Women’s Mahasabha. They have demanded that the investigation be completed and arrests made within that period.
They warned that failure to take action would be followed by a democratic movement.
The demands were raised during a meeting attended by central treasurer Surendra Purty, Women’s Mahasabha president Anju Samad, district vice-president Harish Kunkal, secretary Oiban Hembrom, treasurer Satyavrat Birua and members Sikander Tiria, Thomas Birua, Jogeshwar Pat Pinguwa, Biswajit Birua, Vinita Bobonga and Sini Purty.
