Chaibasa, August 31, 2026: Manoharpur police have solved a pickup vehicle theft case reported last week, arresting two alleged accused and recovering the stolen vehicle during a follow-up investigation.
The case came to light after Dashrath Kisan, 43, a resident of Jhiradapali under Tikayatpali police station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, filed a complaint on August 24, stating that his pickup vehicle, bearing registration number OD14V-8939, had been stolen near the Durga Puja pandal in Linepar, Manoharpur. A case was subsequently registered at Manoharpur police station.
Technical investigation leads police to two suspects
Following the complaint, a special team was formed on the directions of West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu. The team included officers and armed personnel from Manoharpur police station, with assistance from the technical branch.
During the investigation, police traced the suspects and arrested two named accused from the Manoharpur bus stand.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Vinod Singh, 45, originally from Udwant Nagar in Ara district of Bihar and currently residing in Jharsuguda, Odisha, and Prashant Kumar Nayak, a resident of Kerai in Sundargarh district, Odisha.
According to police, both suspects admitted their involvement during questioning.
Stolen pickup recovered near Kandra toll bridge
Acting on information provided during the investigation, police recovered the stolen pickup OD14V-8939 near the Kandra Toll Bridge. The vehicle was formally seized and taken into police custody.
The recovery has provided a key breakthrough in the theft investigation, while police are continuing the legal process against the arrested accused.
Vinod Singh has previous criminal case
Police records show that Vinod Singh has a previous criminal case registered against him. A case was registered at Talsara police station in Odisha under Case No. 983/2026 dated May 28, 2026, under Sections 316(2), 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
