Jamshedpur, September 2, 2026: The reconstruction process for the Jabir Bridge in Mango has moved forward, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared after the bridge was affected by heavy rain and rising water levels.
The development came during a review of rain-related damage and restoration measures chaired by East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan on Wednesday. Officials were directed to accelerate relief and restoration work once water recedes from affected areas.
Engineers inspected the Jabir Bridge following reports that it had been submerged during the heavy rain and that movement across the structure had been affected. A technical assessment was subsequently carried out and the DPR for reconstruction has now been prepared.
The proposal is being sent to the concerned department for implementation. Once the required procedures are completed, work on reconstruction is expected to move ahead.
Officials asked to inspect damaged roads and bridges
The Deputy Commissioner directed all Block Development Officers to conduct field inspections of roads, bridges, culverts and connecting roads damaged by the recent rainfall and prepare detailed reports.
Particular attention has been sought for locations where damaged infrastructure could affect schoolchildren’s movement or the transportation of patients to hospitals.
Officials have also been instructed to clear debris and other obstructions from bridges and culverts and ensure that drainage systems remain functional.
Cleaning and disinfection ordered after water recedes
In areas where floodwater or accumulated rainwater has already receded, authorities have been directed to begin cleaning operations immediately.
Fogging and spraying of bleaching powder have also been ordered in affected areas following drainage, with the aim of reducing the risk of infection and mosquito-borne diseases.
Proposals sought for damaged houses
The administration also reviewed the condition of families whose houses were damaged or collapsed due to rain or other disaster-related circumstances.
Officials have been instructed to prepare and submit proposals for affected families so that eligible beneficiaries can be considered for assistance under applicable housing schemes.
NH potholes and damaged roads to be repaired
Heavy rainfall has also damaged stretches of roads and created potholes on national highways. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to identify affected locations and undertake necessary repairs and strengthening work.
All departments have been asked to maintain continuous monitoring of affected areas, respond promptly to emerging needs and submit reports within the prescribed timeline.
