Saraikela-Kharsawan, September 07, 2026: Two women died and three others were injured after lightning struck a group of five women working in a field in Pandra village under Tiruldih police station on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Sonamani Mahto and Mukta Mahto. Both died at the spot after the lightning strike, while the three other women suffered serious burn injuries.
The sudden strike triggered panic in the field. Local residents rushed to the scene after learning about the incident and helped evacuate the injured women.
The three injured women were taken to Tiruldih Hospital for immediate treatment. They were later referred to Patkum Hospital after doctors assessed their condition. Their condition was reported to be out of danger, according to the information available.
Police begin inquiry into incident
Following the incident, the Tiruldih police station in-charge reached the spot with a police team and gathered details about the circumstances surrounding the lightning strike.
Police have begun the necessary procedural action in connection with the deaths. The bodies of the two deceased women were being taken into custody for further legal formalities.
JMM block president Kritibas Mahto also reached the site with his associates and assisted with relief efforts and other necessary arrangements.
The deaths triggered grief across Pandra village, with family members mourning the sudden loss. The incident has left the village shaken as two women lost their lives and three others were injured in the lightning strike.
