Ranchi, September 07, 2026: A change in the Facebook profile of student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has triggered fresh discussion around his association with the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM).
Mahto, who has been described as a senior vice-president of the party, has removed the designation “JLKM senior vice-president” from his Facebook bio. His profile now describes him as a “social worker” and “student leader”.
The change has attracted attention because it comes at a time when Mahto is conducting a JPSC-JSSC recruitment reform yatra across Jharkhand’s 24 districts, raising issues concerning recruitment examinations and the concerns of students and job aspirants.
Social media change fuels political speculation
The removal of the party designation has led to speculation in political circles about a possible change in Mahto’s relationship with JLKM.
Some observers are interpreting the move as a possible indication of differences within the party, while another possibility being discussed is that Mahto may simply be presenting himself publicly through his social and student activism rather than his organisational position.
At present, however, there is no official confirmation that Mahto has resigned from JLKM or left the party.
Questions also raised over Jayram Mahto equation
The development has also prompted speculation about Mahto’s relationship with JLKM chief Jairam Mahato. Both have emerged as prominent figures associated with Jharkhand’s youth and student politics, making any visible change in their political association a matter of interest.
However, there is currently no official statement from either Devendra Nath Mahto or the JLKM leadership confirming any disagreement, organisational change or political separation.
For now, the Facebook bio change remains the basis of the discussion, while any conclusion about Mahto’s future political association would be premature without an official statement.
