Saraikela, September 7, 2026: Class 10 student Reet Kumari, a resident of Majhitola, Nirmal Nagar in Adityapur, has emerged as a promising athletics talent after winning gold medals in both shot put and hammer throw at the district athletics championship.

Reet secured the two titles on the same day, earning recognition for her performance and bringing attention to the sporting talent emerging from Adityapur.

Following her achievement, Adityapur Municipal Corporation Mayor Sanjay Sardar and Ward 14 councillor Sunita Bera visited her residence and felicitated her with angavastram. They congratulated the young athlete and wished her success in the future.

Reet’s parents, Ramesh Kumar Tiwari and Soni Tiwari, and other family members expressed pride in her achievement.

Three years of training without a coach

Reet said she has been training consistently for the past three years, having started athletics practice when she was in Class 8.

At the district championship, she recorded a 29-metre throw in hammer throw to win the gold medal. Her personal best in the event is 32 metres, according to her.

Despite the availability of sports grounds and a stadium in the area, Reet said athletes do not have access to professional coaching locally. She believes the lack of trained coaches makes it difficult for young athletes to improve their technique and compete at higher levels.

Dreams of representing India at the Olympics

Reet has set her sights on competing at the Olympic Games for India.

She said access to better training facilities and guidance from experienced coaches could help her improve her performance at national and international competitions.

Reet has appealed to the government and administration to strengthen training facilities for athletes and provide better coaching support.

She believes that athletes from rural and local areas can reach national and international platforms if they receive the right resources, training and guidance.
