Ranchi, September 7, 2026: Weather conditions are likely to remain active across Jharkhand on Monday, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in several parts of the state. The weather department has issued a warning for 12 districts, including Ranchi, Dumka, Palamu and Gumla.
Wind speeds may reach around 50 kmph at some places during thunderstorms. The possibility of lightning has also increased amid the changing weather conditions.
The weather department has forecast an increase in rainfall activity between September 8 and 11, while heavy rain is possible in isolated parts of Jharkhand on September 9.
12 districts under rain and thunderstorm alert
According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, the districts likely to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Dumka, Palamu, Gumla, Chatra, Deoghar, Godda, Hazaribagh, Saraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum and Bokaro.
Gusty winds could accompany thunderstorms, with speeds reaching around 50 kmph at some locations. Other districts may also receive light to moderate rainfall at isolated places.
People have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning.
Rain likely to intensify from September 8
Rainfall activity is expected to increase across Jharkhand from September 8. The weather department has forecast the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places on September 9.
Thunderstorms and lightning may continue in several areas from September 10 to 12, with strong winds accompanying rainfall at some locations.
Ranchi likely to remain cloudy
The capital Ranchi is likely to remain cloudy on Monday, with chances of rain and thunderstorms in the city and surrounding areas.
The maximum temperature in Ranchi is expected to remain around 31°C, while the minimum temperature may be close to 22°C. Cloud cover and rain are likely to prevent a significant rise in daytime temperatures.
Lightning risk remains a concern
The possibility of lightning remains a key concern during thunderstorms. People should avoid open areas, trees, electric poles and elevated locations when lightning activity increases.
Those working in fields and other open areas, particularly in rural parts of the state, have been advised to monitor weather conditions and move to safer locations when thunderstorms develop.
Temperatures likely between 30°C and 36°C
Maximum temperatures across Jharkhand are expected to remain between 30°C and 36°C. East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan could record maximum temperatures of around 36°C, while Latehar may record a minimum temperature close to 20°C.
Rain and cloud cover are likely to keep temperatures relatively moderate in several districts.
Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Latehar, Lohardaga and Simdega are expected to experience comparatively pleasant conditions, with maximum temperatures likely to remain around 30°C to 32°C.
