Saraikela, September 01, 2026: Saraikela police have arrested a man within 24 hours of a theft case and recovered cigarettes, cash, coins and tools suspected to have been used during the offence.
The arrest followed a raid in the Laheri Tola area conducted on the directions of the Saraikela-Kharsawan Superintendent of Police. A team led by Saraikela police station in-charge Vinay Kumar acted on a tip-off and searched locations linked to Sajid Khan alias Munna Khan.
Cigarettes, cash and suspected burglary tools seized
According to police, 157 packets of cigarettes of different brands and bottles of oil were recovered from the accused’s ancestral residence.
A further search of his rented house behind Rajabari led to the seizure of ₹18,600 in cash, ₹736 in loose coins and eight coins appearing to be made of silver, police said.
Investigators also seized a screwdriver, hammer and nose pliers on suspicion that the tools may have been used in the theft.
Police arrested Sajid Khan alias Munna Khan, a resident of Laheri Tola, who is around 40 years old. Police also said that he has a previous criminal history.
Investigation continues
The police team involved in the operation included station in-charge Vinay Kumar, police officers Saurabh Kumar Ahuja, Arun Kumar Mahto, Rishi Kumar and Rakesh Kumar, along with personnel from Tiger Mobile.
Police said the arrested suspect is being questioned as the investigation continues. Officers are examining other aspects of the case and checking for the possible involvement of other persons.
