Ranchi, September 1, 2026: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee is set to hold a demonstration outside Lok Bhavan on September 7, focusing on two issues the party says require public scrutiny: protection of Jharkhand’s rights over its mineral resources and an inquiry into alleged irregularities in donations collected in the name of the Ram temple.
The protest will be led by Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh.
The party’s preparations were reviewed at a meeting at the Congress Bhavan in Ranchi involving senior office-bearers of the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and student organisation.
Congress seeks accounting of Ram temple donations
Addressing the meeting, Kamlesh demanded that a full account of money collected from the public in the name of the Ram temple be made public.
He alleged that irregularities in the collection or use of donations should not be overlooked in the name of religious faith and called for an impartial inquiry into the allegations.
The demands are being raised by the Congress as part of its planned September 7 protest.
Party raises Jharkhand’s mineral rights
The other major issue is the state’s rights over its mineral resources.
Kamlesh said Jharkhand makes a significant contribution to the country’s economy through its mineral wealth but alleged that the state’s revenue interests and rights over those resources were being overlooked.
He described the proposed protest as a campaign concerning Jharkhand’s rights and interests rather than merely a party programme.
Youth, women and student wings assigned mobilisation
To build support for the demonstration, the Congress leadership has asked its youth, women and student organisations to conduct outreach programmes in villages, neighbourhoods, colleges and universities.
The three wings have been tasked with mobilising people ahead of the September 7 programme.
Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said a large number of party workers and members of the public from across Jharkhand were expected to participate.
The Congress has framed the demonstration as a protest against what it describes as policies of the Central government. The September 7 programme will determine the scale of the mobilisation.
