Ranchi, September 1, 2026: The Youth Congress has launched a ‘Better Cities Campaign’ in Jharkhand, with its first major focus on monitoring basic civic services and public grievances in urban areas through a campaign titled ‘Mera Shehar, Mera Haq’.
Under the initiative, Youth Congress workers will visit different neighbourhoods and assess ground-level services such as sanitation, roads, drainage and drinking water. Where shortcomings are identified, the organisation plans to seek explanations from the concerned officials and elected representatives.
The campaign was formally announced by Youth Congress state president Gaurav Singh at a press conference in Ranchi.
Workers to inspect civic facilities on the ground
The campaign is intended to move beyond complaints made through political statements and directly document problems in different parts of cities, according to the organisation.
Workers will examine the condition of basic civic infrastructure and raise identified issues with the authorities concerned. The organisation said it would continue following up on public complaints and seek accountability for gaps in municipal services.
Singh criticised the functioning of municipal corporations, saying residents needed visible work and accountability rather than announcements.
Focus on sanitation workers’ safety
The campaign will also highlight the concerns of sanitation workers responsible for keeping cities clean.
Youth Congress plans to raise demands related to their health and safety, including life insurance coverage for sanitation workers.
Singh targets Ranchi civic administration and BJP leadership
Singh also criticised the Ranchi Municipal Corporation and the local BJP leadership over the city’s development.
He alleged that despite the BJP having the mayor and a majority of councillors in the municipal corporation, the city has not witnessed the level of development expected by residents.
Singh also targeted Ranchi MLA CP Singh, alleging that he visits different parts of the city but that this has not translated into work on the ground.
These statements were political allegations made by the Youth Congress during the press conference.
Youth Congress warns of further agitation
The organisation said it would continue raising public grievances and monitoring the functioning of the municipal corporation.
Singh said that if the situation does not improve, Youth Congress would consider intensifying its agitation against the civic administration in the coming days.
