Jamshedpur, September 1, 2026: Jamshedpur has become the venue for a two-day state-level DAV athletics and squash championship, bringing together young athletes from around 64 DAV Public Schools across 10 clusters.
The competition began on Tuesday, September 1, and is being jointly hosted by DAV Public School, NIT Campus and DAV Public School, Bistupur. Events are being held at the JRD Sports Complex and Gopal Maidan.
The championship features competitions for boys and girls in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories.
Competition opens with flag hoisting and cultural performances
The opening ceremony featured the DAV anthem, flag hoisting, a welcome song and cultural dance performances.
Dr Gautam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur and Chairman of DAV NIT Campus, attended as the chief guest. Ravindra Talwar, Secretary of DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, and Chairman of DAV Bistupur, was the guest of honour.
Principals from various DAV clusters also attended the opening programme.
DAV Bistupur Principal and State Sports Coordinator Pragya Singh encouraged the participating athletes, saying that sport should be viewed not only through medals but also as a means of developing discipline, perseverance and team spirit among students.
Dr Sutradhar said the event gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their sporting abilities while interacting with players from other schools and sharing experiences.
Talwar said DAV institutions promote sports alongside education to help students develop confidence, leadership qualities and a healthy competitive spirit.
Track and field events across three age groups
The athletics programme includes a range of track and field events for boys and girls.
Track events include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m races, while relay competitions include the 4x100m and 4x400m.
Field events include:
- Long jump
- High jump
- Triple jump
- Shot put
- Javelin throw
- Discus throw
Squash competitions are also being conducted as part of the championship.
Arrangements made for athletes
Organisers, coaches, officials, referees and volunteers have made arrangements for the smooth conduct of the competition and for the convenience and safety of participating athletes.
With students competing across multiple age groups and disciplines, the two-day championship provides a platform for DAV school athletes from across the state to compete against one another and gain competitive experience.
