Ranchi: CMPDI Commemorates 50th Coal India Foundation Day
Ranchi, November 01, 2024: On Friday, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) marked the 50th Foundation Day of Coal India Limited (CIL) with a grand ceremony. Manoj Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of CMPDI, inaugurated the event by hoisting the Coal India flag, signaling the start of the celebration. The event featured the singing of the CIL corporate anthem, a highlight that brought together CMPDI’s leadership, department heads, and employees in a collective tribute to Coal India’s enduring legacy.
Key executives present at the event included Shankar Nagachari, Director (Technical/CRD), Ajay Kumar, Director (Technical/P&D), Satish Jha, Director (Technical/ES) and Chief Vigilance Officer Sumit Kumar Sinha. The event was attended by an enthusiastic gathering of employees, senior management, JCC members and representatives from CMOAI.
CMPDI Leadership Highlights Coal India’s 50-Year Milestone
Addressing the attendees, Chairman Manoj Kumar emphasized the dual purpose that has driven Coal India’s success over five decades: the production of coal and the commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions. “Today, we celebrate not only five decades of Coal India but also the invaluable contributions this organization has made to national development,” Kumar remarked. He added that the company’s vision extends beyond coal production, aiming to foster community welfare and provide a stable source of energy for the nation.
Kumar further underscored the essential role Coal India plays in creating employment and promoting sustainable practices within the energy sector. He cited Coal India’s record-breaking production for the fiscal year 2023-24, which reached an all-time high of approximately 774 million metric tons. The company is now focused on achieving its 2024-25 production target of 838 million metric tons by leveraging advanced technologies and adopting eco-friendly processes.
CMPDI Earns Multiple Awards for Excellence
CMPDI’s commitment to excellence was further recognized this year as the institute received a series of awards at the Coal India level. Eight awards in corporate and individual/group categories were awarded to CMPDI, reinforcing its reputation for outstanding performance in the coal industry. On November 3, 2024, Coal India will present these awards at its headquarters in Kolkata, with several CMPDI teams and individuals set to be honored.
Significant recognitions include the “Exploration Award” for the Korba Drilling Camp under Regional Institute-5 (Bilaspur), which was selected as the Best Drilling Camp in the Corporate Category. Additionally, CMPDI secured a top prize in CSR expenditure, jointly awarded with Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) and took first place in the Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight).
In the Individual and Group Award Category, notable CMPDI leaders are also set to be recognized. General Manager (TS/PR) Sanjay Kumar Dubey will receive the “Best Department Head of CMPDI” award, while Sanjay Kumar Bhar, Regional Director at Regional Institute-7 (Bhubaneswar), will be honored as “Best Regional Director.” Other distinguished recipients include Jayant Chakraborty, Regional Director at Regional Institute-3 (Ranchi), who will receive the “Excellence Award for Individual Contribution.” Team awards for outstanding work in the mining sector will be presented to senior managers including A.K. Mishra (GM, S&T), Dheeraj Kumar (GM, Mining) and managers like Milan Sen, Somesh Kumar and Mayank Ahuja.
The prestigious N. Kumar Innovation Award will also be conferred upon three CMPDI employees for their contributions to sustainability and innovation. Dr. Amarjeet Singh (Manager, Environment), Farah Nawaz (Manager, Civil) and Naveen Kumar have been selected for this esteemed award.
CMPDI Recognizes Student Achievements and Employee Support
In addition to the ceremonial aspects of the day, CMPDI honored the academic achievements of employees’ children. Manoj Kumar personally recognized students who scored above 90% in the 10th and 12th board exams for the academic year 2023-24. Kumar’s commendation of these young achievers reinforced CMPDI’s commitment to education and employee welfare, a reflection of the institute’s dedication to supporting families and communities connected to the coal industry.
The event opened with a Guard of Honor for Manoj Kumar, marking the solemnity and pride surrounding CMPDI’s role in the coal sector. As CMPDI celebrates its half-century under Coal India, the event underscored the institute’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and contribution to India’s energy and employment landscape.
