Ranchi, December 03, 2024: In a press conference held today, JMM’s National General Secretary and spokesperson, Supriyo Bhattacharya, criticized the BJP and Babulal Marandi. He also made an important announcement regarding the Maiya Samman Yojana, stating that ₹2500 would be directly transferred to women’s accounts under the scheme on December 11.
JMM Leader Attacks BJP and Babulal Marandi
Supriyo Bhattacharya took aim at the BJP, highlighting the party’s setback in the recent elections. He mentioned that JMM had achieved a significant victory in the 28 reserved assembly seats, winning 27 of them. In the only seat where they did not win, the margin was slim. Bhattacharya further criticized Babulal Marandi, the BJP state president, for becoming more active after the election results. He also noted that Marandi had submitted suggestions to the government, particularly concerning the Paharia tribe, an indigenous group in Jharkhand.
BJP’s Tribal Concerns and Babulal Marandi’s Recommendations
Supriyo Bhattacharya referred to Babulal Marandi’s suggestions regarding the indigenous tribes of Jharkhand. The JMM leader pointed out that in neighboring states such as Odisha and Chhattisgarh, BJP governments had appointed Tribal Chief Ministers and recognized 15 tribes as primitive tribes. He advised Babulal Marandi to visit these states, study the situation of the indigenous tribes and understand their social, economic and educational conditions.
JMM’s Call for Inclusive Governance
Supriyo Bhattacharya emphasized that merely shedding “crocodile tears” would not resolve the issues faced by the indigenous communities. He urged Babulal Marandi to focus on the actual conditions of tribal communities in Jharkhand rather than getting influenced by outside leaders. The JMM leader raised questions about Marandi’s focus on issues in other states, such as Assam’s tea gardens and their tribal populations, suggesting he should direct these concerns to the respective state leaders, like Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Political Climate and Future Developments in Jharkhand
The JMM leader also praised the people of Jharkhand for rejecting external interference and supporting local leadership. He assured that Jharkhand’s new cabinet would be inclusive and represent all sections of society. The expansion of the Hemant Soren-led India alliance cabinet is scheduled for December 5 at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, with the ceremony taking place at 12 PM. Supriyo Bhattacharya confirmed that all formal preparations for the cabinet expansion have been completed. He also hinted that a 12th minister could be appointed, a matter that would be at the discretion of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Maiya Samman Yojana and JMM’s Commitment to Women
Supriyo Bhattacharya reiterated the party’s commitment to women’s welfare, with the ₹2500 being transferred under the Maiya Samman Yojana as a part of JMM’s continued efforts to uplift the lives of women in Jharkhand. The scheme is expected to offer significant financial relief and support to women, particularly in rural areas, as the state gears up for further developmental initiatives.
In the lead-up to the cabinet expansion and other political events, the Maiya Samman Yojana is poised to be a key talking point in Jharkhand’s political and social landscape.
