Bokaro, October 24, 2024: On the instructions of Bokaro Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav, a coordinated operation was carried out by the Bokaro mining department team, in collaboration with Kathara OP and Gomia police, to crack down on illegal sand smuggling in Bermo. The raids took place on Thursday, resulting in the seizure of two tractors transporting sand illegally.
Sand Smuggling in Bermo: Swift Action by Authorities
The operation was part of a broader effort to curb illegal sand transport across the region. Acting on DC Vijaya Jadhav’s directives, the mining department, accompanied by local police teams, targeted areas where reports of unauthorized sand transportation had surfaced. The raids were conducted at two strategic locations, leading to significant seizures.
First Seizure at Mahlibandh
The first incident occurred near Sanjeevani Seva Sadan in Mahlibandh, under the jurisdiction of Kathara OP. Authorities intercepted a tractor suspected of transporting sand without proper authorization. Upon verification, the vehicle was confirmed to be involved in illegal sand transport. The tractor was seized on the spot and handed over to the Kathara OP police station, where an FIR was subsequently registered against the offenders.
Second Seizure Near Gomia Police Area
In a similar operation, the police intercepted another tractor near Nehru High School on the main road within the Gomia police area. This vehicle was also found to be illegally transporting sand. Following the standard procedure, the tractor was seized, and the case was handed over to Gomia police, who have initiated further legal action by filing an FIR.
Bokaro Mining Department Leads the Raids
The raids were spearheaded by mining inspector Sitaram Tudu, alongside officers from both the Kathara and Gomia police stations. The operation was executed in coordination with local law enforcement to ensure effective enforcement against illegal sand smuggling, a persistent issue in the Bermo region.
Background: Ongoing Sand Smuggling from Damodar River
Illegal sand transport remains a critical concern in the area, particularly from sand mines located along the Damodar river in Petarwar and Asnapani near Kathara OP. Authorities have identified a pattern where tractors transport sand during the day, while larger Hyva trucks are used at night. The smuggled sand is often routed to areas within the Upperghat of Nawadih block and various parts of Bermo, indicating a larger network of unauthorized operations.
Continued Efforts to Curb Illegal Activities
The recent actions reflect the commitment of Bokaro’s administration to tackle illegal sand mining and transport. Officials have emphasized that the raids will continue to ensure strict compliance with mining regulations, and those found violating the law will face severe consequences.
The recent operations, backed by DC Vijaya Jadhav’s directives, are part of ongoing efforts to bring an end to unauthorized sand transportation in the region. Local authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to illegal sand smuggling to help in their crackdown on such practices.
