Ranchi, September 28, 2025: The Jharkhand government has declared October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, as a dry day across the state, coinciding this year with Dussehra celebrations. In line with the official order, all liquor outlets and related establishments will remain closed on the day.
Dry Day Order Issued in Jharkhand
According to the district administration, the restrictions will apply to country liquor shops, foreign liquor outlets, bars, restaurants, clubs, microbreweries, and canteens operated under JSBCL (Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited).
The order makes it clear that buying, selling, serving, or transporting liquor on October 2 is strictly prohibited across Jharkhand.
Action Against Violators of Dry Day Rules
Officials have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the dry day order. The administration has warned that any violation by shops, hotels, or individuals will invite stringent legal action. Authorities have also been directed to conduct surveillance to prevent illegal liquor sales and distribution on Gandhi Jayanti.
Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra Observed as Dry Day
October 2, observed as the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is traditionally marked as a nationwide dry day. This year, the occasion coincides with Dussehra, strengthening the enforcement of liquor bans in Jharkhand.
The state government’s move highlights the importance of maintaining law and order during major national and religious events, ensuring that the restrictions are followed uniformly across urban and rural areas.
