Ranchi to Get a Modern Mall Under Urban Development Initiative

Ranchi, September 26, 2025: A major urban development initiative is set to transform Sainik Market, located in the heart of the capital, into a grand shopping and commercial hub. Under the vision of Chief Minister Hemant Soren for modern urbanization, the Urban Development and Housing Department has begun work on a large-scale mall and office marketing complex.

On Thursday, consultancy firm Mass and Wide presented the proposed design before Urban Development Secretary Sunil Kumar, following the instructions of Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar. The Secretary directed the agency to make minor modifications and submit the final design soon.

Mall Project in Ranchi on PPP Mode Without State Expenditure

The ambitious project will be developed on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, ensuring that no funds from the state government will be spent on construction. Officials clarified that the mall will be built only after ensuring that no existing traders at Sainik Market are displaced. Once the mall is completed, all eligible shopkeepers will be relocated inside the complex.

Design Highlights of Sainik Market Mall and Marketing Complex

According to the presentation by Mass and Wide’s head Pranav Kumar, the proposed structure will cover 9 lakh square feet, with a built-up area of 6 lakh square feet for marketing and office spaces. The design includes:

Urban Development Department’s Emphasis on Inclusivity

Urban Development Secretary Sunil Kumar stressed that the project must focus on inclusivity and urban convenience. He emphasized that the design should cater to the needs of citizens in developing cities, combining retail, entertainment, and office spaces.
