Chaibasa, September 08, 2026: A 28-year-old motorcycle rider died on the spot after his bike collided head-on with a tanker in Gitilpi village under Muffasil police station in West Singhbhum district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shibu Kondakel, a resident of Bhaga Billa village under Manjhari police station.
According to the information available, Kondakel was travelling on his motorcycle at around 5 pm when the tanker approaching from the opposite direction hit his bike near Gitilpi.
The impact reportedly threw the rider onto the road, leaving him critically injured. Despite efforts by people nearby to help, he died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries.
The accident triggered panic in the village, with a large number of local residents gathering at the spot. Police were informed and a team from Muffasil police station reached the location.
Police took custody of the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa, for post-mortem examination. The deceased’s family was also informed about the incident.
The tanker involved in the crash was seized and its driver was taken into custody, according to police. Further questioning and investigation are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The incident has left Kondakel’s native village of Bhaga Billa in mourning, with family members grieving the sudden death.
Local residents have also urged the administration to strengthen road-safety measures on the Gitilpi route and regulate the speed of heavy vehicles to reduce the risk of similar accidents.
Police said the case has been registered and further investigation is in progress. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
