East Singhbhum, September 8, 2026: The fourth convocation of Jamshedpur Women’s University was held at the XLRI auditorium in Bistupur on Tuesday, with 1,990 students receiving degrees and certificates and 54 meritorious students honoured with gold medals and other awards.

Governor and Chancellor Santosh Kumar Gangwar attended the ceremony as the chief guest and presented the academic honours to students who had performed exceptionally well in their respective courses.

Four research scholars receive PhD degrees

Students from different faculties were recognised for their academic achievements during the convocation.

The Rekha Jha Memorial Medal was also presented to students of the Economics Department.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the university as four research scholars received PhD degrees at the same convocation, according to the university.

Governor calls degree the beginning of a new chapter

Congratulating the students who received degrees and medals, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the achievement marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

He encouraged the students to use their education, knowledge and talents for the development of society and the country.

The Governor said success in life should not be measured only by obtaining an academic degree. He emphasised the importance of ethical values, positive thinking and a sense of responsibility in making life meaningful.

He also highlighted the growing participation of women in education, science, sports, administration and other fields. He said Jharkhand’s daughters have immense potential in education and other areas and that Jamshedpur Women’s University is playing an important role in helping them advance.

Students and families celebrate academic achievements

University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ila Kumar, Director of CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory Dr Sandeep Ghosh Chowdhury, university teachers and officials, students and their family members attended the ceremony.

Students receiving degrees and gold medals expressed enthusiasm over the occasion, while their families also celebrated their academic achievements.

Located in the Sidgora area, Jamshedpur Women’s University is recognised in the source as Jharkhand’s first women’s university dedicated to providing higher education to female students.
