Ranchi, November 22, 2024: In a significant step towards modernizing land records and reducing disputes, the Government of Jharkhand will receive ₹1060 crore as financial assistance from the central government for land reforms. Out of this, ₹600 crore has been earmarked for land survey and re-survey activities. The allocation aims to improve land records, modernize registration offices, and digitize land-related documents, enhancing transparency and efficiency across the state.
Central Government Incentives for Land Reforms
The financial assistance falls under a special incentive scheme from the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), aimed at completing key milestones for land reforms in Jharkhand. The state government, through its Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms Department, has been tasked with achieving six critical milestones to qualify for this funding.
Focus on Reducing Land Disputes
The digitization of land records and Aadhaar linkage will significantly reduce land-related disputes in Jharkhand. By modernizing systems, the government aims to provide tamper-proof digital records, effectively curbing land mafia activities and minimizing bureaucratic manipulation at registration offices.
The integration of Aadhaar with land records will also create a robust database for property owners, ensuring greater accountability and accessibility. This initiative is expected to address longstanding issues like fraudulent land claims, overlapping ownership, and missing records.
Steps Taken by the State Government
The Chief Secretary has directed the Revenue Department to expedite the process of securing incentives from the central government. Meetings with DoLR officials have already been initiated to ensure the timely allocation of funds once the Election Model Code of Conduct is lifted.
With these reforms, the state will enhance its revenue collection processes, streamline dispute resolution, and improve governance in rural and urban areas alike. Additionally, the digitized land records will allow property owners to access their documents online, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
Transformative Impact of Modernization
The modernization of registration offices and digitization of records will not only benefit landowners but also bolster administrative efficiency. It will ensure that rural and urban stakeholders receive equitable access to services, fostering trust in government initiatives.
As Jharkhand moves toward achieving these milestones, the state sets a benchmark for land reforms across India, demonstrating how technology and governance can converge for societal benefit.
