Ranchi, December 16, 2024: The ongoing controversy surrounding the JSSC CGL examination escalated today as police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse protesting students outside the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) office. The protest, organized by the Jharkhand Students’ Union (JSU) under the banner of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM), demanded the cancellation of the exam and a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities.
Amid the chaos, Devendra Mahato, a prominent leader of JLKM, was taken into police custody, further fueling tensions among the demonstrators.
Protest Escalates Outside JSSC Office
Hundreds of students gathered outside the JSSC office in Ranchi today, voicing their grievances against what they claimed were unfair practices in the CGL examination process. The protestors demanded immediate cancellation of the examination and called for a CBI inquiry to uncover any malpractice.
The demonstration turned volatile when the crowd attempted to breach the barricades set up by the police. In response, law enforcement officials deployed a lathicharge to control the situation.
Devendra Mahato Alleges Government Suppression
Speaking before his detention, Devendra Mahato accused the state government of attempting to suppress the voices of students. “The government is trying to silence us instead of addressing the issues. We demand justice for all candidates affected by the discrepancies in the CGL examination,” Mahto stated.
He further called for stringent action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities, emphasizing the need for transparency in the recruitment process.
Ranchi Administration Imposes Restrictions
In light of the escalating tensions, the Ranchi District Administration has imposed Section 144 around the JSSC office, prohibiting gatherings within a 500-meter radius. Additional police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order.
The administration also issued a statement urging protestors to maintain peace and refrain from any activities that could disrupt public safety. “We appeal to the students to raise their concerns in a peaceful manner. Any unlawful behavior will have consequences,” an official said.
Students Demand Cancellation and CBI Probe
The students’ primary demand remains the cancellation of the JSSC CGL examination and a CBI investigation into the alleged discrepancies. They argue that the examination process lacked transparency, leaving thousands of aspirants at a disadvantage.
“We will not stop until our voices are heard. The future of thousands of students is at stake,” said one of the protestors.
Security Measures Tightened
To prevent further escalation, the police have set up barricades around the JSSC office and increased surveillance in the area. Authorities have warned protestors against resorting to violence, stressing that any such actions could lead to arrests and legal action.
Key Developments at a Glance:
This protest marks a significant moment in the ongoing struggle between students and the administration, with both sides holding firm on their positions. As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the government’s response to the students’ demands.
