Jharkhand News: Serious Allegations Against Ranchi Police Station Chief, Accused of Harassing Sikh Family at Night

Ranchi, December 21, 2024: A serious allegation has been made against the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sukhdevo Nagar Police Station in Ranchi. Parvinder Kaur, a resident of Sarweshwari Nagar in Bajra, has accused the SHO, Manoj Kumar, of forcibly entering her home at night and verbally abusing and misbehaving with the women in her family. The incident, according to the complaint, took place on December 19 and Parvinder Kaur has also filed a formal complaint with the Ranchi SSP and sent a copy of the complaint to the DGP.

What Happened on the Night of December 19?

In her complaint, Parvinder Kaur stated that on the night of December 19, she heard loud knocking at her front gate. When she went outside to check, she was confronted by a drunken Manoj Kumar, the SHO of Sukhdeo Nagar Police Station along with his colleagues and a man named Vineet Khatri, a resident of Metro Gali. The group allegedly barged into her house, where they misbehaved with her, her husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Kaur further accused the SHO of allowing Vineet Khatri to molest her. The accused also allegedly stripped off the turbans of her husband and brother-in-law.

Kaur has claimed that she is providing video footage of the incident as evidence.

Background: A Previous Case of Alleged Molestation

This incident follows a previous complaint filed by Vineet Khatri’s sister, Artika Khatri, on April 29, which led to a First Information Report (FIR) being registered at the Sukhdeo Nagar Police Station. Artika accused Kaur’s husband, Shakti Singh Lohia and father-in-law, Gajendra Singh Lohia, of molesting her daughter and making inappropriate remarks. The case was registered under Sukhdeo Nagar Police Station case number 227/2024. However, both Shakti Singh Lohia and Gajendra Singh Lohia were granted bail on May 29 by Vikram Anand, the Judicial Magistrate in Ranchi. Kaur claims that she had provided the bail documents to the police at that time.

A Disturbing Escalation

On the morning of December 19, Parvinder Kaur’s husband received a call from the Sukhdeo Nagar Police Station asking him to submit his Aadhaar card for the submission of a charge sheet. At around noon, Shakti Singh Lohia went to the police station and submitted the required documents. However, later that night, around 11 PM, the SHO, along with his colleagues and Vineet Khatri, allegedly entered the house again in an intoxicated state. They physically assaulted the family, destroyed household items and dragged her husband and brother-in-law out of the house. During the assault, they also threw the turbans of the men.

The Complaint and Ongoing Investigation

Parvinder Kaur has filed a formal complaint with the Ranchi SSP and the incident is under investigation. Authorities are yet to comment on the matter, but the allegations have caused outrage within the local community, with calls for strict action against the accused police officers.
