Ranchi, December 04, 2024: The Public Works Department (PWD) of Ranchi is facing difficulties in securing a consultant for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed flyover connecting Harmu to Kadru Radisson Blu. Despite two previous attempts, the department has issued the consultant bid for the third time, in a bid to move the crucial infrastructure project forward.
Flyover from Harmu to Kadru Radisson Blu Faces Consultant Shortage
The flyover project aims to ease traffic congestion in Ranchi by providing an elevated route from Harmu to Kadru Radisson Blu, two significant areas in the city. According to PWD officials, the consultant is essential for preparing the DPR, which will detail the design, feasibility and cost estimates for the flyover. This report is a key step before the government can grant approval and proceed with the construction.
Despite repeated efforts, the PWD has not yet found a suitable consultant to prepare the DPR. As a result, the bid has been issued for the third time, as the department continues to struggle to find a qualified firm. The engineers involved in the project remain optimistic, emphasizing the importance of finalizing the DPR for the flyover to ensure its timely approval.
Key Features of the Proposed Flyover
The proposed flyover, planned to stretch from Harmu Vidyanagar to Kadru, will connect with the flyover currently under construction at Sahjanand Chowk, which is set to connect to Ratu Road. This will create a more efficient road network in the area and reduce the traffic load on local roads. The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in Ranchi and reduce travel time for commuters.
Before moving ahead with the construction of the flyover, PWD completed a survey for the bridge between Harmu and Kadru, which was an essential preliminary step. With the DPR still pending, the project is yet to move into the next phase of construction.
Low-Cost Tender for Harmu Flyover Construction
In a related development, the tender for the construction of a flyover at Harmu has been floated at a 34% lower cost than the estimated budget. The project will extend from Sahjanand Chowk to Ratu Road and further connect to Kanke Road and the Judge Colony area. The tender review process is currently ongoing, with the government set to move forward once the Chief Minister’s approval is received.
The lower-cost bid is expected to reduce the overall expenditure on the project and the final decision on the tender will likely come after the Chief Minister’s sign-off. This move is seen as a step towards managing the project’s budget effectively while maintaining the quality of infrastructure development in Ranchi.
What’s Next for the Flyover Project?
The Ranchi flyover projects, both at Harmu and Kadru Radisson Blu, are crucial for improving road infrastructure in the city. With the third consultant bid now in progress and the low-cost tender under review, the Public Works Department is focused on moving the project ahead. However, the delay in securing a consultant for the DPR remains a significant challenge for the timely completion of these critical developments.
As the PWD aims to finalize the DPR and complete the necessary paperwork, the success of these bids will play a pivotal role in shaping Ranchi’s urban mobility future.
