Sahibganj News: GS Electronics Owner Sanjeev Kumar Sah Shot Dead in Sahibganj

Sahibganj, Jharkhand, May 05, 2025: In a shocking incident that unfolded late Sunday night, a shopkeeper was shot dead inside his own electronics store located on College Road in front of Chanakya Hotel. The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar Sah, a local businessman who operated a store named GS Electronics on the ground floor of his residence.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the incident occurred around 9:00 PM when two unidentified bike-borne assailants arrived at the scene. CCTV footage from the locality shows that the attackers wore face coverings, one using a black gamcha (cloth) — to conceal their identity. They entered the store under the pretext of being customers and, within seconds, one of the assailants fired a close-range shot at the shopkeeper.

The bullet struck Sanjeev Kumar Sah directly in the chest. As he collapsed behind the counter, local shopkeepers and residents rushed to the store upon hearing the gunshot. He was immediately taken to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Murder on College Road Sparks Panic Among Locals

The murder has sent shockwaves through the Sahibganj market area, particularly among business owners operating in and around College Road. It is one of the busiest commercial streets in the district. The presence of CCTV cameras helped in capturing crucial visuals of the attack, which authorities believe will be instrumental in identifying and apprehending the culprits.

Footage recovered from the store and nearby shops shows both men approaching on a motorcycle, entering the store swiftly, committing the crime, and fleeing the scene within minutes.

Recent Purchase for Daughter Preceded the Attack

Sources close to the victim’s family revealed that just minutes before the attack, Sanjeev Kumar Sah had stepped out briefly to purchase medicine for his daughter from a nearby medical store. Upon returning, he resumed business activities at his shop, unaware of the imminent danger.

His family is in deep shock, and what was meant to be a regular business day turned into a tragedy for the Sah household.

Police Launches Investigation, SP Reviews Crime Scene

Immediately after the incident, teams from Sahibganj Nagar Police Station and Jirwabari Police Station arrived at the location. District Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh also reached the crime scene, where he closely examined the surroundings and reviewed the CCTV recordings.

Police have confirmed that the assailants had planned the attack in advance, as evident from their face coverings and the precision of the hit. Preliminary findings suggest the murder could be linked to either extortion, personal enmity, or a targeted killing, although the motive remains unclear at this point.

A forensic team has also collected evidence from the shop, and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, including murder and criminal conspiracy.

The brutal killing of a known businessman has raised concerns over rising crime in Sahibganj and inadequate night-time patrolling. Several local residents and traders have called for improved security, especially in commercial zones. Business associations have demanded immediate arrests and stronger police presence to prevent such incidents in the future.
