Saraikela-Kharsawan, September 18, 2025: To curb illegal opium cultivation, the Saraikela-Kharsawan police have launched a pre-cultivation awareness drive across the district. The campaign, which began on September 8 under the directives of Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat, will continue till September 22.
Awareness Program at Saraikela Town Hall
As part of this initiative, a special awareness program was organized at the Saraikela Town Hall, where the NDPS team from Ranchi joined the district police. Villagers were informed about the serious consequences of opium farming, including legal complications, financial losses, and social harm.
Oath Administered to Farmers

During the event, SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat administered an oath to villagers, urging them not to engage in illegal opium cultivation. The SP emphasized that the campaign is being carried out under the guidance of the state government and police headquarters.
Promoting Legal and Traditional Farming
Officials highlighted that the primary goal of the drive is to encourage farmers to adopt legal and traditional farming practices. Villagers were educated on the risks of illegal cultivation and motivated to shift towards crops that ensure both financial security and compliance with the law.
