Giridih, September 06, 2026: The final farewell for Jharkhand minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu will take place in Giridih on Sunday, with his last rites scheduled at Narsingh Ghat around 4 pm.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren is scheduled to reach Giridih at around 12 noon from Ranchi following Sonu’s death. Preparations for the funeral have already begun as supporters, well-wishers and members of the public gather in the city to pay their final respects.
According to official information, Sonu’s mortal remains will be taken to Narsingh Ghat for the last rites in the evening.
No plan to take mortal remains to Assembly premises
There is currently no plan to bring Sonu’s mortal remains to the Jharkhand Assembly premises.
The funeral arrangements will proceed after the Chief Minister reaches Giridih, according to the information available.
Sonu’s death has triggered widespread grief across Jharkhand, particularly in Giridih, where he represented the Assembly constituency and had built a long political career with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

The minister’s final rites at Narsingh Ghat will bring to an end a day of mourning following his sudden death, with the state government having already announced two days of state mourning on September 6 and 7.
