Chaibasa, September 6, 2026: Police patrols in the Muffasil police station area of West Singhbhum will now be digitally monitored through barcode checkpoints installed at 14 sensitive and highly sensitive locations.
The initiative is aimed at making beat policing more systematic, effective and accountable. Police personnel on patrol will be required to scan the barcodes installed at designated locations using the Rakshak App, creating a digital record of their presence.
Barcodes installed at key locations
The barcode installation drive was conducted on Sunday under the leadership of Muffasil police station officer-in-charge Vinod Kumar. Probationer Deputy Superintendent of Police Birju Kumar and Sub-Inspector Mithun Kumar were also part of the police team.
Barcodes were installed at several important points, including petrol pumps, the Kolhan Range office, schools and colleges, major crossings and other locations identified as important for regular police patrols.
The locations were selected with a focus on areas considered sensitive or highly sensitive within the police station’s jurisdiction.
Digital record of patrol movements
Under the new system, patrol teams will scan the barcode whenever they reach a designated checkpoint. The scan will digitally record the team’s presence at that particular location.
Police officials said the system will make it easier to determine whether patrol teams are regularly covering their assigned routes and reaching the identified checkpoints.
The digital monitoring is also expected to strengthen police presence in sensitive areas and improve accountability in routine patrol operations.
Police expect better response and surveillance
Vinod Kumar said the technology-based system would help organise beat policing more effectively. Apart from monitoring patrol movements, the system could assist police in keeping track of local activities and responding more quickly when information about an incident or emergency is received.
Police believe that closer monitoring of patrols at sensitive and highly sensitive locations could help deter anti-social and criminal activities.
With the barcode stickers now installed, patrol teams are set to begin regularly scanning the designated checkpoints as part of the new monitoring system.
