Ramgarh, September 1, 2026: Continuous rainfall in Ramgarh district has pushed the water level of Patratu Dam to 1327.10 RRL, prompting officials to open two additional gates on Tuesday afternoon.
Gates No. 3 and 6 were opened after the rising water level. With gates No. 4 and 5, which have been releasing water since August 18, already open, water is now being discharged through four gates at a rate of around 1,330 cusecs.
People in downstream areas alerted
Before opening the additional gates, authorities carried out public announcements in downstream areas to alert residents about the increased water flow.
The administration has appealed to people to stay away from the riverbanks and areas surrounding the reservoir.
Following the release of water, the Nalkari and Damodar rivers are in spate, increasing the risk of flooding, particularly along the Damodar.
More gates may be opened if rain continues
PTPS Remaining Assets Officer Vivek Kumar said that if the current weather conditions persist, additional gates of the dam may also have to be opened.
The increased discharge from the dam is being closely watched amid continued rainfall in the district.
Crowds gather to watch water release
Meanwhile, a large number of local residents, including women, men and children, have been reaching the dam to watch the water being released through the open gates.
Authorities have urged people visiting the area to exercise caution and avoid going near the river or reservoir.
