Dhanbad, September 2, 2026: A routine security check at Dhanbad railway station led the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to the discovery of around 130 litres of beer and English liquor allegedly meant for sale in West Bengal.
The liquor was found in six bags and two sacks lying unclaimed in the rear general coach of Train No. 13051 when the train arrived at Platform No. 3 on Wednesday.
The seized liquor has a total printed value of Rs 38,160, according to the information provided by the RPF.
Passengers deny ownership of suspicious bags
The RPF special task team was conducting surveillance at Dhanbad station on the instructions of the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Dhanbad.
During the inspection of the rear general coach, personnel noticed the six bags and two sacks. The luggage appeared suspicious, prompting the team to ask passengers in the coach about its ownership.
No passenger came forward to claim the bags or sacks.
The RPF team subsequently opened and searched the luggage in the presence of witnesses.
Liquor marked for sale in West Bengal
The search revealed multiple beer cans and bottles of English liquor. After the luggage was removed from the coach, the contents were checked again at the Howrah end of Platform No. 3 in the presence of witnesses.
The total quantity was assessed at around 130 litres, with a marked value of Rs 38,160.
According to the RPF, the labels on the liquor bottles and beer cans carried the wording “For Sale in West Bengal Only.” The items were consequently seized as part of the action.
After completing the seizure formalities in the presence of witnesses, the RPF brought the recovered material and luggage to the Dhanbad RPF post.
Seized liquor to be handed over to Excise Department
RPF Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar has prepared a written complaint in connection with the seizure.
The recovered liquor and beer are being prepared for handover to the Dhanbad Excise Department for further legal action.
The investigation is now focused on identifying who placed the bags on the train and determining their intended destination. No passenger claimed ownership of the recovered luggage during the RPF inquiry.
